Oguchi Onyewu is a defender for the US Men’s National Soccer Team who is currently recovering after “rupturing” one of his “patella tendons” — which sounds like one of the worst injuries imaginable.

Onyewu is a veteran from the 2006 World Cup and was a name I became familiar with during the event because of how talented he was. The US had a disappointing performance overall in the World Cup, but Onyewu was certainly one of the more consistent players on the team leading up to the event.

However, the 2010 World Cup is almost upon us and US Coach Bob Bradley has some difficult decisions to make on who will make the final cut for the team. Onyewu starts his workouts Wednesday and will be in a battle against time to fully recover and prove he can make the trip to South Africa.
